Deadline Extended for Comments on Draft Core Competencies

There is still time to comment on the Draft Florida MIECHV Core Competencies! The deadline for providing input has been extended to July 31st.

The draft document is intended to provide a framework for the basic knowledge and skills needed by home visitors and early childhood professionals. It also serves to connect recommended knowledge and skills to available training opportunities and methods for assessing staff proficiency.

The core competencies are organized around six Topic Areas that align with the federal MIECHV Benchmarks. These Topic Areas provide a foundational framework that is relevant to most programs providing services to expectant families and families with young children birth to age five. Individual programs – home visiting or early childhood – can use this framework as a starting point for more intentional professional development planning, amending it as needed to include model-specific competencies and outcome measures.

Home visiting staff, model developers, prevention partners and other stakeholders are invited to submit comments through an online survey as part of a multi-step process to gather input and support for the core competencies. Development of the working draft document was led by the FSU Center for Prevention and Early Intervention Policy.  For more information, contact Christine Chiricos.
